Father Knows Best 51-01-04 063 Taking on City Hall
Father Knows Best began August 25, 1949, on NBC Radio. Set in the Midwest, it starred Robert Young as the General Insurance agent Jim Anderson. His wife Margaret was first portrayed by June Whitley and later by Jean Vander Pyl. The Anderson children were Betty (Rhonda Williams), Bud (Ted Donaldson), and Kathy (Norma Jean Nillson). Others in the cast were Eleanor Audley, Herb Vigran and Sam Edwards. Sponsored through most of its run by General Foods, the series was heard Thursday evenings on NBC until March 25, 1954.
On the radio program, the character of Jim differs from the later television character. The radio Jim is far more sarcastic and shows he really "rules" over his family. Jim also calls his children names, something common on radio but lost in the TV series. For example, Jim says, "What a bunch of stupid children I have." Margaret is portrayed as a paragon of solid reason and patience, unless the plot calls for her to act a bit off.
Taking On City Hall (Jan 4, 1951) is a favorite, especially if you ever dealt with city hall.

Story of Waylon Jennings Nashville Rebel
Waylon Jennings became a country star doing it Nashville's way. But he became a legend doing things his way. In the early 1970s, his and fellow Texan Willie Nelson's successful fight for creative control of their records launched country?s Outlaw movement. From a career that began in 1958 with a single produced by rock icon Buddy Holly until his death in 2002, Waylon created edgy, timeless, straight-talking music like "This Time," "Luckenbach, Texas (Back To The Basics Of Love)" and "Good Hearted Woman" (with Willie).

Detective Story adapted for radio by Lux Radio Theater aired April 26, 1954 starring Kirk Douglas as detective Jim McLeod, Eleanor Parker as his wife Mary and William Conrad as Lt. Monaghan. Detective Story, based on a Broadway play, is one of Kirk Douglas' finest performances with a mixture of police procedure, comedy, drama, and outright tragedy and was nominated for 4 Oscars. Playing a New York city police detective, the story plays out like a day-in-the life of Douglas' character and his precinct, with an assorted cast of characters. William Conrad gives a great performance also, no wonder he ended up in the TV series Cannon after Gunsmoke radio show ended. One of the best police dramas I've listen to and a must for all devotees of the genre.
