Waterloo Bridge adapted for radio by Screen Director's Playhouse aired September 28, 1951 starring Norma Shearer as beautiful ballerina Myra Lester who falls in love with handsome Roy Cronin, a British army officer during World War I. The story is based on the popular Broadway drama by Robert E. Sherwood. A tale of passionate love gained and lost; Myra in war-torn England turns to prostitution when she believes her fiance has died in the war. The romantic aura is powerful, and the script is first rate. Waterloo Bridge was a box office success and was nominated for 2 Academy Awards.
